Upgrade Installations
Always install MATLAB in a new installation directory, even for upgrade installations. The installer creates a new installation directory for each release by default, for example, MATLAB6p1
. You do not need to delete an existing MATLAB installation before installing R12.1. You can run multiple versions of MATLAB on the same system.
Upgrading and MATLAB Preference Files
MATLAB stores your preference information, such as command history and help favorites, in preference files. The installer does not overwrite these preference files if they already exist on your system. Multiple MATLAB installations on the same system will use the same preference files.
Note If you plan to remove your previous MATLAB installation, either before you install R12.1 or after running both versions on your system, you may want to save your MATLAB preference files. The uninstaller provided with earlier versions of MATLAB deletes these preferences files. See Saving Your MATLAB Preferences for more information. |
