System Requirements ------------------- NOTE: For the most up-to-date system requirements information, go to the products area on The MathWorks Web site, www.mathworks.com. PCs: - Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98 (original and Second Edition), Windows Millennium Edition (ME), Windows NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 5 for Y2K compliancy or Service Pack 6a) or Windows 2000 - Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium IV, or AMD Athlon based personal computer - FLEXlm 6.1 for concurrent licenses. Installed by the installer. - 64 MB RAM minimum, 128 MB RAM recommended - Disk space varies depending on size of partition and installation of online help files. The MATLAB installer will inform you of the hard disk space requirement for your particular partition. For example: - Partition with a 4K byte cluster size requires 120 MB for MATLAB only and 260 MB for MATLAB with online help files. - 8-bit graphics adapter and display (for 256 simultaneous colors) - Other recommended items include: - MS Windows supported graphics accelerator card - MS Windows supported printer - MS Windows supported sound card - Microsoft Word 7.0 (Office 95), 8.0 (Office 97) or Office 2000 is required to run the MATLAB Notebook. - MATLAB can be set up to operate on a network via the TCP/IP communications protocol. - One of the following is required to build your own MEX-files: - Compaq Visual Fortran 5.0 or 6.1 - Microsoft Visual C/C++ version 5.0 or 6.0 - Borland C/C++ version 5.0, 5.02 - Borland C++Builder version 3.0, 4.0, or 5.0 - WATCOM version 10.6 or 11 - LCC 2.4 (bundled with MATLAB) UNIX: - 90 MB disk space (215 MB if online documentation is installed) - 64 MB memory, 128 MB RAM recommended - 64 MB swap space recommended - FLEXlm 6.1 for concurrent licenses. Installed by the installer. For Linux, MATLAB 6.1 will only run in a glibc (libc6) environment. The libc5 environment is no longer supported. The following system configurations are supported: NOTE: Make sure you are up-to-date with all operating system and hardware patches recommended by your vendor. Sun SPARC (Solaris 2) - SPARC, ULTRA workstations - Solaris 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 - OpenWindows version 3.5 or X Windows (X11R5) HP - HP PA-RISC 1.1, HP-UX version 10.20 (Select HP-700 platform option when installing MATLAB.) - HP PA-RISC 2.0, HP-UX versions 10.20 and 11.0 (Select HP-UX platform option when installing MATLAB.) - X Windows (X11R5) Compaq Alpha - Alpha workstation - Tru64 UNIX 4.0f, 5.0 - X Windows (X11R5) IBM RS/6000 - IBM RS/6000 workstation - AIX 4.3.3 - X Windows (X11R5) Silicon Graphics (SGI) - SGI (R5000, R8000, R10000, R12000) MIPS-based workstation - IRIX, IRIX 64 version 6.5.8 (minimum) - X Windows (X11R5) Linux - Pentium, Pentium Pro, II, III, IV, AMD Athlon - ix86 Linux 2.2.x kernel - X Windows (X11R6) These versions or newer are required for Linux: glibc 2.1.x (recommend 2.1.2 or better) gcc 2.95.2 (gcc, g++, g77) xFree86 3.3.x (recommend 3.3.6 or better) Linux 2.2.x (no known issues with 2.4 test kernels) 3. CD Installation ------------------- 3.1 Installation Commands On UNIX systems: install On PCs: setup.exe The MathWorks Product Installer on PCs requires the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM). 3.2 Installation Instructions For more information about the installation procedure, see the installation guide for your system. A copy in PDF format is available in the top-level directory of the CD. 3.3 Distribution MATLAB is distributed on two CDs. One CD holds just the program files for all products and the other holds the documentation files for all products. 4. Getting Help ------------ R12.1 includes an extensive online help system. Use the Help menu in the MATLAB menu bar to access Help. You can also view the documentation and search the technical support solutions database at The MathWorks Web site at http://www.mathworks.com/support/ to find answers to hundreds of commonly asked questions. 5.
