Configuring a DHCP relay agent on a
Cisco 700 series router is fairly straightforward. At the system
level, you only need to add one command:
SEt DHcp RElay ip address of DHCP
server
To view DHCP configuration, enter the
following:
SHow DHcp Config
The example shown in the Figure is a configuration example of a Cisco 700 relay agent.
No change is made to the user profiles, to the LAN profile on the
Cisco 700 series router, or to the central-site router.
Some points to remember when
configuring the DHCP relay agent follow:
- The IP address on the internal or
the LAN profile must be in the same network as that of the DHCP
clients.
- A configuration in which both the
internal and LAN IP addresses exist will not work with DHCP
relay. A LAN profile IP address or an internal profile IP
address can be used, but not both. If the IPCP is to be used in
conjunction with DHCP relay, a manually configured LAN IP
address must not already exist because the IPCP address will be
placed on the internal profile.
- DHCP relay and IPCP initiate a
call automatically, even if autodetection is set to off.
- DHCP relay and DHCP server are
mutually exclusive. The router can function as one or the other,
but not both.
- Upon rebooting, the router waits
90 seconds before it attempts to get an IPCP address, allowing
for ISDN line initialization.
- Make sure that the gateway address
set in the remote DHCP server is that of the router LAN profile.
