| This section discusses
how to configure EIGRP for IP, IPX, and IPX SAP updates by defining
the configuration steps and commands available in each of these
cases.
Perform the following steps to configure EIGRP for IP:
- Use the following to enable EIGRP and define the autonomous
system.
router(config)#router eigrp autonomous-system-number
autonomous-system-number is the number that identifies
the autonomous system. It is used to indicate all routers that
belong within the internetwork. This value must match all
routers within the internetwork.
Indicate which networks are part of the EIGRP autonomous
system on this router.
router(config-router)#network network-number
network-number is the network number that determines which
interfaces of the router are participating in EIGRP and which
networks are advertised by the router.
The
network
command configures only connected networks.
Network 3.1.0.0 (on the far left of the main figure) is not
connected, and, therefore, is not part of the configuration.
When using serial links, it is important to use the bandwidth
on the interface to change the bandwidth used for calculating
routing metrics. If you do not change the bandwidth for these
interfaces, EIGRP assumes that the bandwidth on the link is of T1
speed. If the link is slower, the router may not be able to
converge, routing updates might become lost, or suboptimal path
selection may result.
router(config-if)#bandwidth kilobits
kilobits indicates the intended bandwidth in kilobits per second. For generic serial interfaces (PPP or HDLC), set the bandwidth to the line speed. For Frame Relay or point-to-point, set it to the CIR, or for multipoint connections in which all VC's share bandwidth evenly set it to the sum of all CIRs. For hybrid multipoint connections in which bandwidth is not evenly distributed, set the bandwidth to the lowest CIR x the number of PVC's.
-
You can change Enhanced IGRP's default percentage of bandwidth it
uses to exchange route updates with the following commands:
- ip bandwidth-percent eigrp
- ipx bandwidth-percent eigrp
- appletalk eigrp-bandwidth-percent
Note that the configured bandwidth affects load statistics that
appear in some of the
show
commands.
