A benefit of File Manager over the
command line environment is its ability to recover deleted files. This
is also known as the "undelete" function. If a file is
deleted using File Manager, you can undelete it providing they have not
been overwritten. Within the CDE, any file or directory that is
deleted is placed within the 'trash can.'
- The files within the 'trash
can' can be 'undeleted' by selecting the 'put back' option from the
file menu.
The 'trash can' also allows you to 'shred' the files or
directories within the trash can, which will permanently delete the
files.
In
this lab, you will work with Common Desktop
Environment (CDE) File Manager. The CDE method of
file and directory management allows you to do
many of the same tasks that were performed earlier
at the command line.
