Gateway of last resort still works when links fails
In this scenario (shown in the main figure and the RouterC#show ip route command output), the link between router A and router C has failed. Router C has converged on the path via router B for its route to the gateway of last resort network (10.0.0.0). 10.0.0.0 is now known via the next-hop address of 168.71.7.2 (the router B serial 1). Because the local domain default route of router C (168.71.0.0) is a static route to network 10.0.0.0, it works on the new path for 10.0.0.0 via router B as well.
