10.4 Changing Permissions with File Manager
10.4.1 Changing properties
The CDE File Manager utility provides a graphical interface to the file system and can be used to view or change file and directory permissions. You can view and change the properties for a file or directory by selecting it from the File Manager window and then choosing Properties from the Selected menu. An alternate method is to right click the file or directory and choose Properties from the menu displayed. Figure shows the Properties window for the dante file. Clicking on the Information category button allows you to view information about the file, such as file size and last modification date. Clicking on the Permissions button allows you to view and change permissions. To change permissions for Owner (User), Group or Other, simply select the desired permission by clicking on the checkbox. With this screen, you can also see the access control list for the file.

When working with files, by clicking on the "Apply Changes To" button, you have the option of applying the changes to:

  • This File Only
  • All Files in Parent Folder
  • All Files in Parent Folder and its Subfolders

When working with directories, you have the options of applying changes to:

  • This Folder Only
  • This Folder and its Subfolders
