3.1 Using the Mail Tool
3.1.1 Introduction to mail tool
Mail Tool  is a full-featured graphical email management program. The Mail Tool is an email client that is a standard component of the Solaris CDE. With Mail Tool you can perform all normal functions related to your email. You can read mail and attachments, create new mail with attachments, delete, and manage your email with mailboxes.

The Mail Icon
The mail icon appears on the Front Panel. Clicking on this icon launches the Mail Tool program. This is where reading and working with Email is done. The normal mail icon will change when new mail is received.

The Mail Window
By default, the Mail window is divided into two areas. The upper portion displays a list of the email messages which have been received. The lower portion displays the text content of the currently highlighted message. This allows you to view each message's contents by clicking once on an Email subject header line in the upper portion. The size of the message viewing area can be changed by clicking on the control button between the upper and lower portions of the screen areas and dragging it down or up.

New Messages
The Mail icon on the Front Panel will change when new mail is received. A new message that has not yet been read is shown with the letter "N" to the left of the sender's name in the top portion of the Mail window.

Attached Files
When an Email message has one or more files attached, a diamond character will be displayed after the New Message indicator (the letter N). To read an attachment, double-click on its icon at the bottom of the window.
