| You must specify global and interface parameters to prepare the router for operation in an ISDN environment. At the global or high level, the administrator must specify the ISDN service provider’s CO switch type. There are approximately
ten different switches to choose from, depending on the country where the connection is established.
Although the high-level interface configuration and selection tasks apply to all routers, this section focuses on BRI for access routers. PRI details
for routers and access servers with T1/E1 controllers are covered at the end of this chapter, in the “ISDN Primary Rate Interface” section.
The interface ISDN addressing tasks include assigning the IP address, dialer group, and ISDN service profile statements. The task also includes adding the
dialer map
command that associates a statically mapped destination to a destination IP address, hostname, and ISDN dial number.
Optional features to set for ISDN are covered in more detail in the “Optional Configuration” section at the end of the chapter (these include
isdn caller number, isdn rate adaptation,
and dialer map
speed).
