| The operating system environment on Sun
systems is called the Solaris Operating Environment. The Solaris
environment consists of the SunOS 5.x Operating System, the Open
Network Computing (ONC) protocols, and a Graphical User Interface
(GUI). SunOS 5.x is a multiuser, multitasking network operating system
that is based on the standard SVR4 UNIX operating system. ONC is a
family of published networking protocols and distributed services that
enable remote resource sharing among other things. The Solaris
environment supports two graphical interfaces: Common Desktop
