5.8 ISDN Primary Rate Interface
5.8.1 PRI configuration tasks

As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, T1 and E1 provide two-way service over telephone-switching networks. This section describes the tasks that are required to get ISDN PRI up and running.

PRI configuration tasks are as follows:

  1. Specify the correct PRI switch type that the router interfaces with at the provider’s CO.

  2. Specify the T1/E1 controller, framing type, and line coding for the provider’s facility.

  3. Set a PRI group timeslot for the T1/E1 facility and indicate the speed used.

  4. Identify the interface that you will configure to act with DDR.

Lab Activity
Given a Central site Cisco-IOS router with ISDN PRI capability and branch office site Cisco-IOS routers with ISDN BRI capability, configure all routers so that you can place an ISDN call between your three company sites.
