To enable EIGRP for IPX, perform the
following steps:
- Enable IPX routing.
router(config)#ipx routing
Define EIGRP as the IPX routing protocol.
router(config-ipx-router)#ipx router {eigrp autonomous-system-number
| rip}
If IPX EIGRP is selected, an autonomous system number must be
specified. This number must be the same for all IPX EIGRP routers in
the network.

- Indicate which networks are part of the EIGRP autonomous
system.
router(config-router)#network network-number
(Optional) If IPX RIP is also operating on the router,
remove RIP from the networks using EIGRP by going to the
router
rip
configuration entry and doing the following:
router(config-router)#no network network-number
Redistribution of RIP information between the RIP and EIGRP
networks follows several very specific guidelines:
- When redistributing from RIP, the external hop count in the
Enhanced IGRP update is the RIP hop count incremented by one. The
external delay is the RIP delay.
- When sending an Enhanced IGRP learned route out in a RIP update
(redistributing Enhanced IGRP into RIP), the Enhanced IGRP
external hop count is incremented by one and used as the RIP hop
count.
- The RIP delay is calculated by adding the Enhanced IGRP external
delay, the delay of the outgoing interface, and the delay of the
Enhanced IGRP cloud.
- The Enhanced IGRP metric is calculated by converting the RIP
delay into an Enhanced IGRP style delay, in this case (5500 ¥
delay), left-shifted 8 bits. This value is used with a static
value of 9600-bps bandwidth in the Enhanced IGRP metric
computation.
