9.8 EXAMPLE: Configure Multicast Routing
9.8.1
EXAMPLE: Configure multicast routing
This section provides a complete multicast configuration example between two Catalyst 4006 Switches with Layer 3 services. In this example, a host in VLAN 200 is receiving a multicast transmission from a server in VLAN 100. CGMP is being used between the switch and the Layer 3 card and the multicast routing protocol employed is PIM sparse mode.

The multicast application used in this example is an MP3 streaming application. This application was installed on the server and continuously streaming MP3 files to member hosts of the multicast group. The multicast session is being advertised using the 228.244.25.52 address, while the actual multicast group is 228.49.66.100. The first address allows the host to discover the multicast stream, while the latter address is used by the hosts to retrieve the MP3 file.

Sample outputs in the diagram include the configurations of the router and switch CGMP information.  They also show the multicast routing tables both before the host starts receiving the multicast stream and while the host is receiving the stream. Finally, the RP is located at 192.168.1.1. All relevant multicast information has been bolded.
