| The Figure shows a sample UNIX file system structure for a user. This
is the Class File Tree Structure which you will refer to throughout
this chapter and again later in the course. This structure should
exist in each student's home directory.
Note that there are directories, subdirectories and files in the
structure. Directories and subdirectories have a folder icon and files
have a document icon.
The exercises in this and subsequent chapters use this directory
structure.
The structure and names of directories
within a user's home directory can vary considerably depending on the
user and their needs. For instance, a user could have major
directories named Projects, WPDocs, Finances and Hobbies under their
home directory. The names of the directories are determined by their
purpose and what they contain.
