2.3.3: Configure an Asynchronous Connection from a workstation to a
router with automatic modem configuration using the AUX port
Objective:
Make a successful asynchronous connection from a workstation to
a router with a modem attached to the AUX port.
Scenario:
Your colleagues also working for the Atlanta Bread Company would
like to dialin to your router. You will properly configure an
asynchronous connection on your router using the AUX port and dialin
from a remote location.
Notes:
Lab Tasks:
Cable the equipment as shown in the diagram.
Log into the Atlanta Bread Company router and enter global
configuration mode.
The commands to configure the aux port for async operation are :
Atlanta(config)#line aux 0
Atlanta(config-line)#password cisco
Atlanta(config-line)#login
Specify the RTS/CTS for flow control and set the line speed with
the following commands:
The final step to configure the router is to configure a host to
IP mapping. This host to IP mapping must also include the port
number for the reverse telnet session. The command to do this is:
Atlanta(config)# ip host auxmodem 2065 172.16.0.1
Note: The AUX port is line 65.
Write the configuration to memory.
From your desktop computer dialin to the Atlanta router's AUX
port modem. Once the modems connect you should see a password
prompt like the one below:
CONNECT 33600 V42bis
User Access Verification
