Initialization strings are used to
configure the modem to a known state. They are a series of parameter
settings that are sent to your modem to configure it to interact
with the access server in a specified way. For example, the modem
can accept calls or place them. Some examples of modem
initialization strings are shown in the Figure.
Different vendors offer numerous
other modems. Always refer to the user manual from the modem vendor
for the proper modem commands.
Note that the AppleTalk Remote Access (ARA) 1.0 (or 2.0) client software includes built-in MNP 4 capability. It might have problems if MNP 4 is enabled on the answering modem. Some modems let you disable MNP, but allow LAPM. For example, you can use the following command strings to disable
MNP:
