PIM-SM is only slightly more complicated to
configure than PIM-DM. All you need is knowledge of three
configuration commands, and you can have sparse mode up and running.
As in PIM-DM, you need to enable PIM on each router in the network
by using the following global command:
Router(config)#ip multicast-routing
Next, enable PIM-SM on every interface in
every router in the network by using the following interface
command:
Router(config-if)#ip pim
sparse-mode
The final step is to configure each of the
routers in the network with the IP address of the RP using the
following global command:
Router(config)#ip pim rp-address
<address>
This command tells the router where to send
the (*, G) joins when it needs to join the shared tree in sparse
mode.
