5.5 Static and Default Routing
5.5.2 Configuring static routes

With static routes, network protocol routes are entered manually, eliminating the need for a routing protocol to broadcast routing updates across the DDR connection. Static routes can be effective in small networks that do not change often. Routing protocols can generate traffic that causes connections to be made unnecessarily.

At the central site, you can enter the static route and point it at a specific address, as follows:

Router(config)#ip route 172.108.0.0 255.255.0.0 192.254.35.2

In order to point to your interface instead of the next-hop address, you can also use the following:

ip route 172.108.0.0 255.255.0.0 BRI 0

Provided that you are using a dialer-string command, if you use a dialer-map command, DDR does not enable if the static route is pointing at your interface. A static route is usually necessary to initiate DDR.
