4.2.2 Configuring a Windows 95 dial-up client

To configure the Windows 95 Dial-Up Client, complete the following steps:

  1. From the Dial-Up Networking window shown in Figure , click on Properties from the File menu (or right-click on a connection icon and then click Properties).
  2. From the General tab of the dialog box, click Server Types, as shown in Figure .
    Depending on your Windows 95 revision, the Server Types function appears either as a button or a tab.
  3. From the Server Types dialog box, select the correct remote-access server type, as seen in Figure .
  4. From the Server Types dialog box, you can optionally select the following advanced options:
  • Log on to network -- NT domain only
  • Enable software compression -- Use Microsoft’s compression feature
  • Require encrypted password -- Registration / Authorization / Status (RAS) dial-in
  1. From the Server Types dialog box, select from the following allowed network protocols:
  • NetBEUI
  • IPX/SPX compatible
  • TCP/IP

With Windows NT and locally defined usernames on a network access server, you need to configure the username with the DOMAIN\\username command string in order for direct network login to work with CHAP authentication.
